“The Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives, Datuk Ewon Benedick, launched the first 1901 franchise outlet in Sabah, located at KDCA Penampang.

1901 is a subsidiary of Pernas, one of the agencies under the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (KUSKOP), and is operated by a female entrepreneur in Sabah.

Ewon said that to date, the 1901 outlet has 44 premises throughout the country and hopes that the opening of these premises in Sabah will increase the interest and motivation of prospective franchise entrepreneurs to venture into this sector.

“For Sabah, from the year 2007 until today, Pernas has developed a total of 63 franchise entrepreneurs and has disbursed financing of around RM14 million.”

“This is an encouraging development, and I welcome more Sabahans to get involved in the franchise sector across the state,” he said.

He made this statement when met by reporters after launching the 1901 Outlet at KDCA Penampang, here today.

Ewon, who is also the Member of Parliament for Penampang, said that Pernas, the agency responsible for developing franchise entrepreneurship, will continue to provide services and guidance to entrepreneurs interested in venturing into the franchise field.

“I hope the people of Malaysia in Sabah will seize the opportunities available to venture into the franchise business.

“I would like to see more participation from our entrepreneurs in this field; we cannot just be buyers but must become franchise entrepreneurs,” he said.
