TENOM, SABAH — The vibrant heart of Borneo will come alive on 20th September 2025 as the Carnival Momogun World Indigenous Day 2025 unfolds at the Sabah Murut Traditional Centre, Tenom. This landmark celebration, running from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM, promises a full day of cultural immersion, dialogue, and festivity, spotlighting the rich tapestry of indigenous traditions across Sabah.

Organized by the Momogun National Congress and supported by KUSKOP, Kementerian Perpaduan Negara, Koperasi Kebudayaan Negeri Sabah, and the Tenom District Office, the carnival will feature 12 indigenous associations and organizations showcasing their ancestral heritage through traditional food, handicrafts, dances, and cultural exhibits.

🎤 Forum for Rights and Recognition. From 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM, the event will host a pivotal UNDRIP Forum—a platform for discussing land rights, indigenous law, and customary practices. This dialogue aligns with global efforts to uphold the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, fostering awareness and advocacy among local communities.

🏅 Honouring Indigenous Champions. A highlight of the day will be the Tokoh Hari Orang Asal Awards, which recognise outstanding individuals from various organisations who have made significant contributions to indigenous empowerment and cultural preservation.

🎁 Entertainment & Surprises Local artists will take the stage to entertain guests throughout the day, while a Lucky Guest Draw promises surprise gifts for attendees—adding a festive twist to the cultural celebration.

🎙️ Official Launch The ceremony is expected to be officiated by YB Datuk Ewon Benedict, Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (KUSKOP), underscoring the government’s commitment to indigenous development and cultural sustainability.
